    Hi Bill,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

It seems you're having trouble finding the Plug and Play functionality after updating to Windows 11 on your Surface Pro, which is causing issues with installing HP Smart.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get HP Smart working:

    1. Check Windows Update and Driver Status
      • Update Windows: Go to Settings > Windows Update and ensure your system is fully updated.
      • Update Drivers: Visit Device Manager (right-click Start and select Device Manager) and ensure there are no missing drivers or issues. Look for yellow warning signs indicating driver issues.
    2. Enable Plug and Play Service:
      • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
      • Type services.msc and press Enter.
      • In the Services window, scroll down to find Plug and Play.
      • Right-click on Plug and Play and select Properties.
      • Set the Startup type to Automatic and click Start if the service is not already running.
    3. Manually update Surface drivers and firmware: Download drivers and firmware for Surface - Microsoft Support

After following these steps, your HP Smart app and printer should install and work correctly. If the above methods still do not work, you may need to contact HP support.

    Your Sincerely

Hahn. W - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

On the ARM-based devices, you cannot use the printer vendor drivers. You can only use the generic Microsoft-supplied printer driver from Windows.
