Surface 7 Pro Windows 10 cannot find my TCL Roku tv.

Hi,

I'm trying to wirelessly connect my Surface Pro 7 with my TCL Roku TV. It was previously connected and I was able to cast to the TV. Recently I tried connecting to the TV, but got a message that it could not connect to the device. After many attempts, I followed a suggestion that I go to the device manager and remove the device and then add it back in. I did that, and restarted the computer. I returned to the device manager and selected "Add Bluetooth or other device" and then clicked on "Wireless display or dock". Now my computer cannot find the TCL Roku tv at all. The TV is on. Nothing has changed since the last time I connected wirelessly. I've double checked the settings in the TV to make sure that it is available to connect. WiFi is on; computer and TV are both connected to the same network and connection is good. I have tried all possible combinations of "Connect" and "Project" but since the computer can't find the TV it doesn't make a difference.

I have downloaded and installed all updates available as of this date.

I am at a loss.

I do not want to have to connect to my TV using cables and/or adapters.

Please help.

    Hi SuzanneEaton,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear about the issue you are having with your Surface Pro 7 which is unable to find your Roku TV to connect wirelessly.

I would like to make sure first regarding with the troubleshooting that you mentioned where you remove the device, was it on Device Manager or in Windows Settings?

To troubleshoot the issue, please try first uninstalling and reinstalling the network adapter of your Surface by following these steps below:

    Open Device Manager

    Expand Network adapters

    Right-click the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201

    Select Uninstall device

Note: If prompted with a checkbox stating "Delete the driver software for this device", leave it uncheck then hit Uninstall.

After uninstalling, restart the Surface. This should reinstall the Wi-Fi adapter.

Try connecting again to the TV by pressing Windows key + P then select Connect wirelessly

See if it can now find your TV

If still the issue persist, please proceed in running these steps below:

    1: Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit

See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)

    2: Check for Windows Update

Go to Windows Settings > Update & Security and select Check for updates

Make sure all updates need are installed including Optional updates

    3: Update drivers and firmware

Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version by going to Settings > System > About

Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro

Then click the link next to Surface Pro 7 then click Download on the next page.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

4: Run System File Checker Tool

See: Using System File Checker in Windows (microsoft.com)

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion

    Hi Marrion,

I've tried all of the things that you have suggested, with no success.

I'm puzzled, because it worked so well the very first time I tried it.

    Suz

    HI SuzanneEaton,

Thank you for the response and update on this. I'm sorry to hear that the issue persist and you are still unable to connect the device to your TV.

Please proceed in creating another user account on the device then sign in on that account. Test if you are able to project the device to the TV on that account used. If yes, the issue may be caused by some configuration on your current account. I would suggest making the new account as Administrator and use that account from now on. See: Create a local user or administrator account in Windows (microsoft.com)

    Hope this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion
