Microsoft Surface Pro refused WiFi Known WiFi password

I recently bought a Microsoft Surface Pro 4.  As I was setting it up it asked me for my wifi password which I entered.  It told me that the password was not correct.  The password WAS correct. It works on all my other devices. I KNOW that the password is correct. So currently I am unable to connect my surface to my WiFi connection.  I then tried to connect to a different wifi network that was available and it accepted the password for that network, but it still refuses to accept the password to my router. I even reset the password on my router just to make sure that no one had somehow changed it.  Still, it will not accept the password. If someone could help me I would be obliged.

    Hi Dustin,

For better understanding the issue let us know whether did you get any error message when you enter password?

As initial troubleshooting steps I suggest you to check for the windows latest updates, refer to the below link,

    https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/install-update-activate/surface-pro-4-update-history

I request you to try the below steps and check if its helps,

Let us try to Reset the Network configuration and check if it helps,

From the Desktop screen, click the network icon in the Windows Taskbar notification area.

Then right-click the wireless network and in the menu that appears, click Forget this network.

Click the network icon again, and try to connect to the wireless network. Assuming your wireless network is secured, you should see a prompt for your wireless network password (security key/code).

And also try to reset your router. Resetting your router involves changing it back to its factory settings.

When you reset your router the following settings are changed:

    • Router username and password

    • Wi-Fi username and password

    • ISP username and password

    • Any portforwards you have set up

    • Any firewall settings you have made

    • Basically, any configuration changes that you have made to your router.

Find the reset button located on the back of the router. Use a pin, paper clip, or thumbtack to press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds or until the lights on the router change.

Hope this information helps you to connect Wi-Fi on your device and access internet.

    Thank you.

I have the same problem but the attempt to connect to the network in question, it freezes my network card and I have to reset the network.  Surface Pro 4 connects to other networks but not the ASUS router.  Surface Pro 3 connects to this router with no issues.  Ideas?  Help?

I suspected the same thing and already tried that.  Additionally, I ran the software repair tool, as indicated by the technet troubleshooter and same result.  Any other suggestions?  I also have issues where - after turning off the computer - the wifi adapter does not connect, nor does it allow connection to any router/signal.  It doesn't even recognize that there are any signals in range until I disable and enable in settings.

Since the issue remains the same after following all the troubleshooting steps provided on this thread, we can share you these options to resolve your concern:

    1. Verify that Wi-Fi is available in Device Manager
    2. See if it's a problem with your modem or ISP
    3. Check your network adapter
    4. Run networking commands after using the Network troubleshooter.
    5. Advanced troubleshooting: Check to see if MAC address filtering is enabled
    6. Restart your Surface.
