Hi GrumpyCat11,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Do you have the most current updates installed?
Do you see any error messages or error codes?
What browser are you using?
This browser is no longer supported.
Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
This just happened to my new (almost 2 week old) Surface Pro 3. Am on Windows 10.
Whilst i have 2 browsers on - 1 playing songs on youtube and 1 another one on checking mails, it just froze on me ]with loud buzzing sound and freaked me out. I didnt know what to do. Finally I had to use my mobile phone to check for solutions and found that I had to hold the power button for 30secs to shut it down and that finally solved the problem.
What I am trying to find out is - why the buzzing sound?? And how can I prevent this from happening next time?
I can understand if browser freezes sometimes, but I am actually surprised this happened to me so soon for a new device.

Hi, from my understanding, I did a check for updates after I got the device 2 weeks ago and updates were up to date.
There were no error messages nor codes. The screen just froze totally.
I was using Firefox.
However, I did notice that, after managing to shut down and then restart the device, the screen showed updates being installed. Was that the reason? Did the device try to install updates automatically and someshow caused it to freeze? The thing is, there were no messages that the device was downloading or installing updates whilst I was using it.
Hi there,
Thanks for providing more details. It is hard to tell at this point. If it keeps happening, please reply back and let us know.
Kind regards,
Clare
Same happened to me. I was playing a video on Google Chrome and was Skyping at the same time. I usually do this on a regular basis, but the buzzing and frozen screen has never happened until today. I "fixed" it by holding down the home button and the volume up button at the same time to restart the surface. Not sure why it happened.
Hi all,
It happenes to my surface pro 3 just now and couple times before. It's really scary the first time cuz the buzzing is really loud. Never had this happened on my other devices.
I'm on Windows 10, just using google chrome to watch video on YouTube. I usually use it for Internet browsing, or just do some work on Windows office products. It happened after I upgrade to Windows 10 and it happened 5 times already. It's really annoying and not sure if the technician can fix it or not so I didn't bring it to the store yet. What I did is like kemaya to hold both home button and volume up button to kind of "fix" it...
please help, thanks
