Firmware update ruined my surface pro 8

After the firmware update, I started getting BSODs, and now I can’t boot into Windows properly. I've tried numerous different methods to fix my Surface, but neither the recovery image drive nor the Windows installation media have worked. I need a firmware reset, but Microsoft, in their brilliance, didn’t even provide such a feature.

    Hello 수민채,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

From your description of the problem, we have noticed that your Surface Pro 8 is currently in a state that does not boot properly.

The update pushed on September 24th fixed the abnormal battery limited mode reported by some users a while ago, but at present we have not received any similar situation as your feedback, but if the firmware update does have a problem, then we will report this situation to the Surface technical support team.

You've tried a number of options to repair your Surface, including using a Surface-specific recovery drive:

Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support ****

This process guides you through the creation of a Surface-specific recovery drive, which will then be used to restore your Surface to factory Settings.

But can you tell us what you're getting in the way of doing this and what error messages you're seeing? We need this information to determine what else can be done before sending your Surface to the Surface support team.

For the average user, restoring the Surface to factory Settings with the Surface Recovery Drive is the last step. This step is similar to reinstalling the system for other brands of computers. If this process does not help you reset the firmware and get your Surface back to normal, then I recommend sending your Surface to the Surface technical Support team for review and recovery.

I can direct you to get in touch with Surface Live Support, who can help you create service orders:

    1. Use your personal Microsoft account (not your organization account) to access the following links:

    Contact - Microsoft Support

    1. Type The Surface fails to enter the system, press Enter, and click "Contact Support" at the bottom:

    1. Select Technical Support and select the device model you are currently using in Produce family, then click Confirm:

I live in South Korea, and I consulted with a Microsoft agent here. I was informed that Microsoft Korea does not have engineers who can inspect or repair Surface devices, and they can only offer replacements. Since my one-year warranty has expired, they told me that I would need to pay 1,029,274 KRW (approximately 782 USD) for a replacement.

    Hi 수민채,

Although your Surface product warranty has expired, your local Surface support team should still be able to provide you with a paid repair service.

I checked the repair cost of Surface devices out of warranty in Korea, and it is indeed 1,029,274 KRW:

How much does out-of-warranty service cost for your Surface device or accessory? - South Korea - Microsoft Support

So this is in line with the local maintenance policy.

I understand that this price is really too expensive, because this price can even buy a new Surface. If that's all the Surface support team in Korea can offer you, my advice as a community support is that after considering this price, I actually recommend buying a brand new Surface rather than getting a refurbished one.

    Best Regards,
