Surface laptop 7 Touchpad Issues (Lagging, Jumping, Stuttering)

Im experiencing lag and stuttering and jumping on my new surface laptop 7 13.8 inch when ever i move the mousecursor (happens more when i move finger fast with the touchpad) . All the drivers are updated. I tried to update through device manager but apparently the Surface HID Touchpad is already up to date ( a bit odd driver date is from 2006, i mean pretty old ) I contacted microsoft support and they said that the model is very new and they have no fix for that yet. Help me with this one pls.

    Hi Masoud,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Surface Laptop 7th Edition's touchpad. A few users reported that the touchpad stops working when plugged into a USB-C power source. If this occurs, unplug the USB-C power source, after which the touchpad should start working again.

If this is not the case for you, Let's try a few steps to see if we can resolve the issue:

Press the up and down arrow keys to change what is selected on the left side menu to check if the keys work or not.

    • If the keys are working correctly in UEFI, but not in Windows: The problem is likely with the software installed on the Surface, and you'll need to reinstall. See Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface .
    • If the keys are still not working correctly: If the Type Cover or Keyboard still doesn’t work on your Surface, submit a service order for your Type Cover or Keyboard.

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

Hahn. W - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Hi thanks for the reply.

This unfortunately is not my problem. My touchpad works and my keyboard and the led light aswell.

My problem is the touchpad lagging and stuttering when moving it. More precisely when i move it fast. It seems to be a software / performence issue. I tried the Diagnostic tool and also attempted driver download in Device manager and also reinstalled the HID Touchpad Device but still didnt help. My windows is also updated to the latest version.

I saw other people on reddit and also amazon Reviews talking about the same lagging/jumping problem of the touchpad! I really dont want to return this product since im convinced, that this must be a software issue and can probably be fixed with a service pack or an updated version of the HID touchpad driver which is from 2006 but i might be wrong. I really hope this problem gets fixed soon before im forced to send this back.

    Best regards.

Go to your trackpad settings and move the CLICK SENSITIVITY all the way to the left. Then scroll down to the MOVE TRACK PAD SETTINGS and adjust that setting all the way to the right. Hopefully that'll fix your issue.

I have a problem on my Surface Laptop 7. The haptic feedback and multi-touch support (e.g. two fingers to scroll) are intermittent to the point of unusability. I have tried uninstalling the device and rebooting, but Device Manager says I have the latest driver. I tried the Diagnostic Toolkit, and it diagnosed that the trackpad isn't working, but pointed me to the driver again. Tap to select works reliably, but I barely get two or three clicks before the haptic feedback and muti-touch feature disappears. I have tried minimising sensitivity and maximising intensity, but to no effect.
