    Hi, DeborahHough!

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We are sorry to learn you have issues with your Surface Pro (5th Gen) not booting to Windows as it is stuck on the Windows logo. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this.

If there is a progress bar under the Surface logo, an update is installing. Please allow it to complete. If there is none, kindly try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    Remove all external devices

Leave the Surface plugged into the charger and remove all external devices including USB drives, SD cards, or any keyboard or mouse dongles.

Force shutdown the device and restart

    1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
    2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo.

If that doesn't work, here's how to make sure your Surface turns off completely:

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

We hope this helps you out, we highly encourage you to inform our Community by clicking on Yes or marking my post as an answer. This will help other members who may have the same issue as you. Otherwise, don't hesitate to update us so we can further assist you.

    Kind regards,

I have tried this on numerous occasions.  When it is turned back on it remains on the windows logo....period.  Nothing else happens.

are you able to boot to the UEFI or not?

The UEFI settings can be adjusted only during system startup. To load the UEFI

    firmware settings menu:

    1. Shut down your Surface and wait 10 seconds.
    2. Press and hold the volume-up button on your Surface and at the same

time, press and release the power button.

    1. The Microsoft or Surface logo appears on your screen. Continue to

hold the volume-up button. Release the button once the UEFI screen appears.

If you CAN boot to the UEFI, do you see a disk icon with an X through it upper

    right?

I can boot to UEFI but did not see disk with x through it.   Will try to locate this.   What do I do with that icon?

It's GOOD that you do not see that icon - that icon only appears if the SSD is

    damaged.

You might want to attempt to boot from a recovery image and see if you can wipe

    and reimage. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surfacerecoveryimage

(with a different Windows computer if yours is not working properly)

and download a recovery image for your Surface. You will need a 16GB USB stick

formatted FAT32 (use a Windows computer).  Best to purchase and use a new,

previously unused USB stick for this.  If you want some help with this and are

able to go to a physical retail Microsoft Store, that is your best option (many

stores in the US and there are also 7 stores in Canada and 1 each in Puerto

Rico, London, UK and Sydney, AU) so if possible, you should go to the closest

    Store https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/locations/find-a-store
