I am unable to install Minecraft Launcher

I am trying to install Minecraft Launcher on my laptop for several days but it is just buffering saying starting download. In addition to this Gaming Services starts downloading as well automatically when I am trying to download Minecraft Launcher. Recently it does not even start downloading rather it gives an error saying "Try again later. Something happened on our end". I had reported this on Feedback Hub as well but I didn't get any response nor has the issue been resolved. I have tried various solutions that I found online but none of them worked. I am using a Microsoft Surface Pro X laptop (Windows 11) and I have checked that the latest version of Windows is installed and so is the latest version of Microsoft Store installed. All apps are up to date as well and I have ran the trouble shooter for Microsoft Store but that didn't solve the problem. I have a stable internet connection and also I have no third party antivirus software installed on my laptop so that cannot be a reason for my problem. I am fed up of searching for solutions now, can someone please help me?

Hi Abhijeet. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

    1. Try these fixes for Minecraft Launcher first - same for Windows 10 and 11:

I'll give you everything else possible that works to fix the Store, based on helping to fix it daily for years here. Even if you've tried a step, please do it over in this sequence:

    1. Try updating Store apps: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-bil...
    2. Right click on the time and date in the far right corner of the taskbar. Choose Adjust Date and time settings, at the top make sure the time is correct. If it’s wrong, manually adjust it and make sure the sliders for Set time automatically and Set time zone automatically are set to on.
    3. Reset the Store app using all four options here: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/reset-uwp-app-to-...
    4. Type Services in Search box, run Services app as Administrator, open Windows Update Service and Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Stop both.

Press “Windows (flag) key + R,” copy and paste C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\ press the Enter button. This folder has all the files related to Windows updates.

Open the “Download” folder, select and delete all the files.

Restart Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer services in Services app by opening both and choosing Start.

    1. Try running the Windows Store apps Troubleshooter in Windows Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters
    2. Type CMD in Search box, Run CMD as administrator, type WSReset.exe and hit Enter. Or in the Search type wsreset.exe select Run as administrator.
    3. If that fails to fix the problem go to Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & Features to highlight Microsoft Store, choose Advanced Options, then Reset. After it resets, restart PC.
    4. Clear the LocalCache Folder: Open Run by pressing the Windows key + R hotkey. Copy and paste %localappdata% in Run and click OK. Open Packages> Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe > LocalCache folder. Press the Ctrl + A hotkey to select all content within the LocalCache folder. Press the Delete button.
    5. Type services.msc in Search box, choose Run as Administrator, from Services tab ensure that Microsoft Store Install Service is started and set to Manual, if not restart PC. Alternative methods to work through the above steps here:

    1. Run System File Checker and DISM to repair broken System Files: https://www.elevenforum.com/t/use-system-file-c...
    2. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest versionL https://www.elevenforum.com/t/repair-install-wi...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

I have tried all the solutions from 1 to 10 but it still didn't solve my problem. It still gives try again later error. I have tried the solutions in sequence from 1 to 10 and then I also tried the alternative method (given via a YouTube video) but even that didn't work. The only method that I could not complete was the alternative method (Solution 9 Safe Mode-3rd one I think from the YouTube video the first two didn't work but I have tried them) because when I tried that it first asked me for bit locker recovery key which I eventually found but when I entered Safe Mode using F4 key I went on the sign page and was stuck there literally. The problem was I couldn't enter the PIN to log in/sign in apparently maybe due to the fact that I use a wireless keyboard and mouse. Since no keys worked and nor was there a mouse pointer I was just stuck there. I tried the touchscreen but even that didn't work even I was touching like everywhere but nothing seemed to work. There were two buttons on the sign in screen one was the power button and the other was I think the accessibility button (man symbol) which I tried pressing via touch but it did nothing. I eventually long pressed the power button on my laptop after which I was given a message to swipe down to shut down but since the touch screen was not working (which I don't understand why because it is working right now and also it's barely been like 2 months since I have purchased this laptop) I was scarred that my computer's broken or something. But luckily somehow after pressing the power for quite a while the computer shut down and finally started normally again (sigh of relief) (looks like some Windows 11 problem maybe). I didn't try that Safe Mode method again since I was scarred that this might happen again. As far as the last solution (Point 11) is concerned I will definitely try that one tomorrow and let you know what happens. I am sorry for typing such a long reply but I felt that you needed to know which method(s) was/were not successfully tried (Point 9 Alternative method-YouTube video last method that Safe Mode one). Also I have another question that I use Microsoft Surface Pro X which has an ARM based processor. So, can this have anything to do with this Minecraft Launcher problem? Like compatibility or something? Although on the Microsoft Store it says that my PC meets the developers requirements (the green tick mark near the system requirements I think). Also thanks for giving me all these solutions I will try the Point 11 one (Windows Media Creation one) tomorrow and let you know what happens. I am grateful that you took the time to respond to my silly game launcher problem. I will let you know what happens with Solution 11. Thanks! Also my name is "Abhijeet" and not "Abhjeet". Other than that great work!

    Abhijeet -

Does the Store work to install other apps?

Try these others steps for Minecraft Launcher not loading in Windows 11:

    https://www.bollyinside.com/articles/how-to-fix...

    https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCL-21021?attach...

Keep in mind you have a one year manufacturer's support, repair and replacement warranty that comes with any hardware so if problems persist you can call on the PC manufacturer's Support to fix or replace it, making sure it gets done soon enough so you can ensure the repairs work in time for the warranty expiration, or extend it.

Let me know how the Repair install works.

Let me know how the Repair install works.

Yes, I have checked that the Store works to install only some apps. I just tried and successfully installed Telegram Desktop but when I tried to install WhatsApp Desktop it gave the same error as Minecraft Launcher (Try again Later). I did try the Repair install (USB installation method) but it fails. I do not know the reason for it's failure. I have tried it multiple times and I have followed all the steps correctly to the best of my knowledge. I don't know what to do now. Please help.

Edit: I downloaded the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and ran some tests after which WhatsApp Desktop installed successfully and seems like is working fine but the Minecraft Launcher problem isn't solved yet it still gives the same error.

The version on the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit for my laptop says OS Build 10.0.22000.527 but the USB installation version 10.0.22000.1 so can this difference be the reason for the failure of Windows 11 repair/installation?

    Hi again Abhijeet -

Did you use the latest version of Windows 11 from Media Creation Tool to try the Repair Install?

    Download Windows 11

If this does not work I want to move this thread to the Surface forum. I picked it up because it was in the Windows forum and I handle many Minecraft cases, but it may need attention from a Surface expert.
