    Hello, Karena Payne.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

If you are unable to locate the battery icon directly in your taskbar, this may be due to a missing driver or the battery hardware not being recognized properly.

I believe your Surface Pro 7 is still able to charge properly, to determine the issue you can head over to Settings:

    • Click the Windows logo on the taskbar > Settings > System > Power & battery.
    • Observe if anything battery-related is displayed on that page.

And to troubleshoot driver-related issues, we can perform the following:

    Reinstall the power driver:

This will go into Device Manager for a power driver reinstallation, if you are still able to see the battery related options, please continue:

    1. Select Search on the taskbar, enter device manager, and then select Device Manager from the list of results.
    2. Select the arrow next to the Batteries category.
    3. Double-tap or double-click Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery or Surface Battery, select the Driver tab, and select Uninstall Device > OK.

You can also right-click Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Battery or Surface Battery, and then select Uninstall device. 4. Select the computer at the top of all the categories, select the Action menu, and then select Scan for hardware changes. 5. Select Start > Power > Restart.

If we are unable to find the battery option in Device Manager, we can try to manually get the driver for Surface Pro 7 to troubleshoot the potential missing driver:

Download Surface Pro 7 Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center ****

Please reboot your device after the download is complete to apply the driver update.

If the problem stems from the driver, then after performing the above steps we will be able to restore the battery level display.

If the problem persists, we need to consider whether this is a hardware failure.

A partially faulty or unrecognized battery function can lead to a similar situation.

As I am not in a position to directly assist you in debugging your device, I recommend you to contact the Surface Technical Support team for more efficient hardware service.

I share with you the steps to create a service order here:

Open the Surface App (usually built into your Surface device, or you can download it from the Microsoft Store if you don't have one) and follow the procedure below:

    1. Click "Help and Support" and then click "Get Help".
    2. Briefly describe your problem in the text box, such as "Battery not recognized", and then press Enter.
    3. Click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
    4. Select "Technical Support" and click "Confirm".
    5. You will see "Chat support" and "phone support" options, please contact them during working hours, you will get one-to-one support services.

These are some of the information I can share with you at this time.

If you make any progress, feel free to share it with me.

I wish you all the best.

    Best Regards.

    Hi Leo

    Thank you for your reply.

I don't seem to have the battery information in any of those places suggested by you and when I tried to download the drivers and firmware for Surface Pro 7 it told me I can't as that is not my model? When I look on my laptop is has Surface Pro 1796, is there the same download I can do for this model to try and get the battery information to appear?

    Hi, Karena Payne.

    Thank you for your reply.

If you can't even find any battery information in the settings, it means that there is indeed a missing driver in your device.

Also, you provided the model number Surface Pro 1796, which is actually a Surface Pro 5. So, you can go ahead and try to download the following drivers for Surface Pro 5:

Download Surface Pro 5 [Wi-Fi] Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center

I look forward to your progress here.

In the meantime, I will move your question to the Surfae Pro 5 board.

    Best Regards.

    Thanks Leo

I have managed to install the driver but still can't find any battery information anywhere?

Do you have any other handy tips for me to try?

    Thank you

    Hi, Karena Payne.

Sadly, after installing the driver if you still can't find the battery information, it means that your battery is not properly recognized by the device.

We were able to determine that this is a hardware failure.

Typically, for Surface hardware issues, the community will direct you to contact the Surface Technical Support team for hardware service.

However, the Surface Pro 5 was discontinued worldwide in May of this year, and Microsoft no longer offers out-of-warranty repairs for it.

As Community Support we cannot hide this fact from you.

In theory, your battery issue can still be fixed. You can try to get help through other reliable source.

Of course, if at some point in the future you would like to get a brand new Surface device, you can also visit the following link for the latest offerings:

    Microsoft Surface Copilot+ PCs, Laptops, 2-in-1s, Computers & All-in-Ones | Microsoft Surface ****

Thank you for your use and understanding of Surface products.

Finally, I would like to express my best wishes to you.

    Best Regards.
