Dead zone + phantom touches (surface pro 4)

The problems started around system updates CONVENIENTLY AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED LAST WEEKEND. I have about a 1" dead zone directly down the center of my surface pro 4 from top to bottom. This area is unresponsive to the surface pen and my touch. I am also experiencing phantom touches to the point where the device is unusable because its seizure-like activity won't let me have control of any function. I have tried everything (restarted/shut down multiple times, full scan for malware/viruses, disabling and enabling the touch screen, updating drivers, checking for MORE updates, restoring to before the updates, disc check and SFC). I think the only thing I haven't tried is a system reset. Like I said, OF COURSE my warranty expired last weekend so I'm pretty upset. Any similar stories or insight into what is going on would be much appreciated.

I'm having the same problems about a week. Tried everything hard reset, usb boot, hot fix from Microsoft and calibration etc. Sometimes screen is working fine then deadzone appears with phantom touches. Doing software check from Surface website and Calibration with calib4g.exe fixing the phantm touchs but deadzone is not going anywhere.

I'm not sure it's software or hardware. My warranty is expired and also i'm living in a country Microsoft is not supporting Surface XD.

Maybe it's a firmware bug from the latest Surface update and MS will handle this?

It is not permanent. My old screen issue with phantom touches and dead zones was gone, and now from a week is back again! It's 100% driver issue, but with latest drivers it comes back again!

This is the exact same thing that is happening to me.

I've had this Surface pro for nearly a year but most of the time its been a second machine so its definitely not wear and tear.

What happened? Did you get it fixed? Is there a solution?
