Surface Pro 7 - USB C and USB 3 ethernet connection issues

Hi

I have a surface pro 7 , 16gB RAM and i7-1165G7 @ 2.80 GHZ which ethernet connection drops out when I am connected using a VAVA 8 port smart hub (https://www.vava.com/products/usb-c-hub-8-in-1-usb-c-adapter-with-4k-hdmi) via the USB C for an Ethernet internet connection (RJ 45 cable to a local switch connected to my cable modem)

To troubleshoot and isolate faulty USB C, have also tried the USB 3 port with a Gigabit ethernet adapter (https://www.moshi.com/en/product/usb-3-0-to-gigabit-ethernet-adapter/silver/) and the same issue occurs.

Followed the troubleshoot network adapter instructions and disconnected and rebooted the switch broadband modems and seems to reconnect initially but the dropout / freezing issue still occurs especially when on VC calls.

Have tried to reinstall and update all windows drivers, reinstall TEAMS, ZOOM and reinstalled drivers for the USB C and USB 3 adapters/hubs but problem still occurs (freezing / dropping out). Also checked the performance and the CPU / RAM usage is way low, so it doesnt seem to be that problem.

Have then switched to WIFI connection which works but is slow.

Any advice or help appreciated (other than buy a surface pro dock?)

Your Vava link didn't work, do you mean USB C Hub 8-in-1 With 4K HDMI® Adapter - VAVA ? They have a note that states "Please connect power delivery adapter when using high powered devices." So are you powering the hub or not?

Zoom and sometimes Teams seem to be creating issues for all kinds of computers on their own, so for trouble shooting, how is performance with say Youtube or videos on web sites?

The Moshi link you provided didn't work either, is it USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter | Moshi ?

I note that both of these are multi function devices. The Moshi has a pass through - what else is connected? Are you able to borrow a non multi function USB to Ethernet adapter to see if a non multi function device performs differently?

    Hi Barb,

Sorry not sure what happened to link but yes to both but your fix seems to have resolved. I plugged the hub into power and just had an hour long TEAMS call on Ethernet thru the hub and no dropouts! Many thanks!

What were you doing when the connection dropped? What does Event Viewer show? If you need help with Event Viewer, How to use Event Viewer on Windows 10 | Windows Central might help.
