Using external monitor and Surface Book monitor as tablet at same time

Question

I have a Surface Book 1.  I use OneNote to write notes during meetings on a daily basis and detach the monitor daily.  With remote work, I have had to go back to paper notes.  I would like to be able to have an external monitor where I can video chat and be able to detach my Surface Book monitor to write notes in OneNote using the surface pen.  Is this possible?  To be clear:

1. I want to purchase a larger, external monitor for virtual meetings.  (I know this is possible).
2. I want to detach my Surface Book monitor and write notes w/the Surface pen in One Note
3. I want to be able to do this at the same time.

Would love to know before I go out an purchase an external monitor.  (Legal pads are cheaper).

Please utilize this link>>https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023496/surface-troubleshoot-connecting-to-a-second-screen to get some of the information you need to consider when extending your Surface display to external monitor.  For Surface Book, you can extend its display using a mini-DP port adapter but if in case you'd like to extend it while using it as a tablet, you'll be needing a Surface connect cable and a Surface dock to get it to work.
