Surface X cameras not working on Windows 11

Hi,

I upgraded my Surface X to Windows 11 in December 2023, the cameras have stopped working (error code 0xA00F4271<MediaCaptureFailedEvent> (0x80004005).

I tried updating the drivers, but they are up-to-date.

I noticed that the Surface Camera AVStream Mini Driver has version 1.0.1660.3 but the latest version of the driver is 1.0.1660.5.

Any suggestions?Thanks!

    Hi Jose Camacho_120

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft customer support. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Surface X cameras after upgrading to Windows 11. Based on the error code you provided, it seems that the issue is related to the Media Capture API. To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Open the Settings app and go to Privacy and security> Camera. Make sure that the toggle switch for "Allow apps to access your camera" is turned on.
    2. Please click on settings>Apps>Install apps> Find the Camera app and click on it. Click on the Advanced options link and then click on the Reset button.
    3. If resetting the Camera app doesn't work, please open device manager by pressing Windows +X> then select device manager.
    4. Under device manager click on system devices> scroll down and right on Microsoft Camera Front and select uninstall but do not put any check mark that say complete delete. Just click uninstall and click okay.
    5. Then, right click on Microsoft back camera> select uninstall> do not put any check mark that say complete delete. Just click uninstall then click okay.
    6. Then, restart the Surface device to apply changes. Once the device is on test the camera.

If the issue still persists, we need to reset the Surface device back to default to clear out that this is not a software related issue.

Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Kind regards,

    Christopher.

    Thanks Christopher,

The first 5 suggestions didn't work, I have to wait until I have a little time to reset the device to default. Thanks!

    Kind regards,

    Jose
