I need to remove and repair bluetooth devices between machines

I currently use a Surface Pro and Windows Dekstop (TP Link USB 5.0 adaptor). I use a BT mouse and BT keybord - both Microsoft branded. Both machines are running Windows 10.

Everytime I switch to my desktop machine, I need to re-pair my devices. Annoying the keyboard needs to be removed and re-paired.

How can I avoid the peripherals needing to be repaired every single time!

IMPORTANT - For anyone struggling to remove their bluetooth devices (where devices cannot be removed from Device Manager, Registry and Bluetooth & Devices).

Go to Windows Key > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers > Navigate to your device > Right click and Remove Device

I observed that Windows is creating multiple registry entries each time the device successfully pairs; then on later connections it cannot repair due to conflicts.

    Hi kmud16,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you’re having trouble with your Bluetooth devices. Let me help you on this. But first, allow me to ask some questions so we can further isolate your issue and formulate appropriate troubleshooting steps.

    • May I know which Surface pro device do you have and the make and model of your Windows desktop?
    • And which Microsoft Bluetooth mouse and keyboard do you have specifically?

I may need to know which Surface and accessories you have so I can give you an accurate response.

For the meantime, you may try the suggested steps from this article to fix Bluetooth problems Fix Bluetooth problems in Windows - Microsoft Support.

On the other hand, thank you for sharing this important information. It seems like you’ve found a workaround for a common issue where Bluetooth devices can’t be removed due to multiple registry entries created by Windows. Your step-by-step guide could be very helpful for others facing the same problem.

I hope to hear back from you.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

    This is the following hardware:

Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 1951 Laptop

TP Link UB500 | Bluetooth 5.0 Nano USB Adapter

    HP Wireless Mouse 250

    Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Keyboard

I have followed the steps in the Microsoft support guide however they do not address this particular problem. Latest drivers for all devices are being used.

Additionally the Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center app do not recognise my devices - "No supported device detected".

I do note that often devices connected to the Surface then need re-paring on other devices (where they were previously known). Maybe a security control?

    • Do you mean you have connected your Surface Laptop 4 to a USB Bluetooth adapter which is the TP Link UB500 | Bluetooth 5.0 Nano USB Adapter?
    • You mentioned that you used a Surface device which is the Surface Laptop and a Windows Desktop, may I know what is the make and model of the Windows desktop you're referring to?

Take note the Surface Laptop 4 and Microsoft Designer Bluetooth Keyboard supports swift pair, if you’re using Windows 10, you can enable Swift Pair by going to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices and checking the “Show notifications to connect using Swift Pair” option.

Swift Pair is a convenient feature available on Windows 10 and Windows 11 that simplifies the process of connecting Bluetooth peripherals to your computer. For more information, see Swift Pair | Microsoft Learn.

The bluetooth mouse and bluetooth keyboard connect to the surface via the inbuilt bluetooth.

The same bluetooth mouse and bluetooth keyboard connect to my desktop via the bluetooth usb adaptor.

The desktop is a Dell Intel Xeon machine runnign Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

Swift Pair is enabled. I have already tried all the standard bluetooth steps in the linked guide.

    ..

I need an explanation why I cannot remove the mouse and keyboard from the 'Bluetooth & other devices' menu?

When i click 'Remove device', the modal appears but there is no button to click.

I can only remove the device from 'Devices and Printers'.

I have observed that the device id changes every time the device needs to be repaired - Dev_xxxx777, Dev_xxxx778, Dev_xxxx779 etc

Is there anyway to edit the device id or other identifier so it is then recognised on both devices?
