Microsoft Surface Pro 8 Keyboard cover not working

My Microsoft Surface Pro 8 Keyboard has stopped working. I have tried the Surface Diagnostics toolkit, and when I went to the type cover test it said: 3rd Party Keyboards are not supported. I am using the Microsoft keyboard cover, not any 3rd party hardware. It seems that the computer is not detecting the keyboard at all. Need your help asap please!

    Hi Jarryd,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having with your Surface Pro 8 keyboard. Let's try a few steps to resolve this issue:

    • Detach and Reattach the Keyboard:
    1. Unplug your Surface and detach the keyboard cover.
    2. Make sure there is no debris or damage on the connectors.
    3. Reattach the keyboard, ensuring all magnets touch the bottom edge of your Surface.

Press the Caps and Fn keys on your Surface Type Cover or Keyboard several times to check whether the LED lights turn on.

If the LED lights turn on, your problem may be with Windows and not the device itself. The next step is to reset your Surface. Here's how:

    1. Go to Start , enter reset in the taskbar, then select Reset this PC .
    2. Select Reset this PC > Keep my files > Cloud download and follow the rest of the prompts shown on screen. For more detailed steps and a video, see Restore or reset Surface for Windows .

If the LED lights don't turn on, there might be a hardware issue. To verify in UEFI, do the following:

    1. Turn off your Surface and wait 10 seconds.
    2. Press and hold the Volume Up button—and at the same time, press and release the Power button.
    3. You'll see the logo screen on your screen. Continue to hold the Volume Up button. Release the button when the UEFI screen appears.
    4. Press the up and down arrow keys to change what is selected on the left side menu to check if the keys work or not.

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

Thank you for your reply and the information. Unfortunately none of these steps worked and there is no in person service center available in my country. My tablet is out of warranty and I cannot find any option to get it fixed.

    Hi Jarryd,

I'm sorry that the previous method didn't work. If the Surface Keyboard still doesn't work in UEFI, it means there is a hardware problem with your keyboard.

To get repairs and service for your Surface device, you don’t have to go to an in-person support center. If you decide to send it in, go toDevice service and repairand sign in with your Microsoft account. If your device is already registered, select it and follow the instructions. If your device isn't listed, select Don't see your device? to register it, then follow the instructions to get service.

Through this process, you’ll find out if your Surface is in or out of warranty and how much it’ll cost, if applicable. Depending on the product, the service offered may be a repair or a refurbished replacement. Once an order is created, you’ll get a shipping address so you can send in your device. Continue to Frequently asked questions for more info.

    Your Sincerely

    Hi Hahn,

Going to device service and repair brings us another issue. Under accessories there is no option for keyboard. I can choose from pen or power supply. Could you please advise?
