2015-01-24T19:15:03+00:00 Hi Javier,
Thank you for your message! I'm sorry to hear about the black screen after unlocking.
- Could you provide more detail as to what you were doing beforehand? Were you getting an update? Was the Surface in sleep mode or was shut down?
- Have you tried the 2 button shutdown?
Step 1: Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button on your Surface at the same time for at least 15 seconds, and then release both.
The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.
Step 2: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.
Step 3: Press and release the power button on your Surface to turn it back on.
Please let me know! The more details you can provide, the better.
Hi crossroads0,
Thank you for your contibution to the thread. That's unfortunate that you are also experiencing the same issue on your less than 24 hour old device.
Have you considered performing a refresh using a USB recovery media?
Step 1: Make sure Surface is shut down and plugged in.
Step 2: Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port on Surface.
Step 3: Press and hold the volume-down button while you press and release the power button.
Step 4: When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-down button.
Step 5: When prompted, select the language and keyboard layout you want.
Step 6: Tap or click Troubleshoot, tap or click Refresh your PC, and then tap or click the target operating system you wish to refresh.
Step 7: On the Refresh your PC screen, tap or click Next, and then tap or click Refresh.
Surface restarts and the Surface logo displays while the refresh process completes (this can take several minutes).
Please download a recovery image for your Surface and **create a USB recovery drive**beforehand.
I hope this helps.
