Slim Pen 2 Issues on Surface Pro 9: Eraser and Shortcut Button Not Working

Hey everyone,

I'm having some trouble with my Slim Pen 2 on my Surface Pro 9. The pen works fine for drawing, but the eraser function and the shortcut button on the back don't seem to be working at all.

I've tried restarting the device and re-pairing the pen, but the problem persists. Has anyone else encountered this issue or have any tips on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hello, blaxe.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

After reading your description, I noticed that the eraser function on your Surface Slim Pen 2 does not work correctly with the shortcut keys on the back.

I believe that your Surface Pro 9 is working well and also that you have reset the Slim Pen as described below:

Re-pair the Pen: Unpair and re-pair your Surface Pen. Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices, remove the Surface Pen, and then pair it again by pressing and holding the top button for 7 seconds until the LED flashes.

So, I will go ahead and share some possible suggestions with you.

Sometimes, the hardware cache can cause some of the Surface Slim Pen's functions to be disabled. Please try to clear the hardware cache by forcing a reboot:

Force a shutdown and restart your Surface - Microsoft Support

Potential driver issues can also cause the device to not be properly compatible with all features of the Surface Slim Pen. Please try to get the driver and firmware installer for Surface Pro 9 manually:

Surface Pro 9 with Intel Processor https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=104680
    Surface Pro 9 with 5G (SQ3 Processor) https://www.microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=105941

You will select the corresponding address based on your CPU type.

Please reboot your device after the download is complete to apply the driver update. The above steps usually work if the problem stems from the driver.

These are some suggestions for the device system level. If the problem persists, I believe it is necessary to get hardware level support. You can use the Surface App to reach out to Surface tech support and submit to create a service order.

I will share with you the steps below:

Open the Surface App (usually built into your Surface device, or you can download it from the Microsoft Store if you don't have one) and follow the procedure below:

    1. Click "Help and Support" and then click "Get Help".
    2. Briefly describe your problem in the text box, such as "Surface Slim Pen does not work", and then press Enter.
    3. Click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
    4. Select "Technical Support" and click "Confirm".
    5. You will see "Chat support" and "phone support" options, please contact them during working hours, you will get one-to-one support services.

I hope your Surface Slim Pen 2 will be taken care of properly.

    Best Regards.
