After years of no camera issues, Surface 8 now has no cameras. Recent install of W11 24H2.

No face recognition at signin, in camera app or Zoom.

Troubleshooter finds nothing

BT & Devices: "camera preview failed to start".

Device manager shows 1 "Intel TGL AVStream camera"

Reboots and update checks do nothing/

***Moved from Windows / Windows 11 / Devices and drivers***

    Hello K E Ohrn,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

From your description, I understand that you have checked whether there is a new update push, but it seems to be the latest version, there is no update push, right?

Open the Surface App, then tap "Help & Support," then tap "Try toolKit".

This is a Surface specific diagnostic kit to help you troubleshoot this problem, if you have never installed it, you will be prompted to get it from the Microsoft Store.

The diagnosis may take some time, but after the diagnosis is complete, you should see a diagnostic report with some diagnostic recommendations.

In addition, I would recommend that you try manually downloading and installing the driver and firmware package for the Surface Pro 8:

Download Surface Pro 8 Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center ****

After installation, restart your Surface, and then check if the camera function can return to normal.

    Best Regards,

    Hi Mitchell:

Thank you for your considerate response.

I resolved the issues by reinstalling Windows 11 from System/Recovery/Reinstall (reinstall your current version of Windows). It served as a valuable lesson. Eager to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 11, I utilized the Microsoft "Download Windows 11, Windows 11 Installation Assistant," which was succeeded by a minor update.

The exact cause of the problem remains uncertain—whether it was a missing component in the Installation Assistant or a glitch during installation. Nevertheless, the issue has been resolved.
