Surface Pro Signature Keyboard: Connection Recognition Issues and Backlight Malfunction

I'm using Surface Pro 9 and Surface Pro Signature keyboards. My keyboard is experiencing a strange phenomenon where it doesn't recognize when connected in the first place, but it recognizes when connected again. It keeps happening every time I try to connect the keyboard. It has no problem with using it, but it's quite inconvenient. I checked that the drive on the typecover is in the firmware drive, but it's not in the keyboard driver. I wonder if this makes my Surface Pro Signature keyboard repeat the action twice, with no backlight running, and connecting the keyboard to the surface. I'm wondering if I need to install a keyboard drive to fix this. What should I do?

    Hi 김혜림3,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It sounds like your Surface Pro 9 is having intermittent issues recognizing the Surface Pro Signature Keyboard, and this could be related to the firmware or drivers. Here are a few steps you can take to resolve the connection

    recognition and backlight issues:

    • Update Drivers and Firmware: Make sure your Surface Pro and keyboard drivers and firmware are up to date. You can use the Surface app to check for updates. Open the Surface app, go to Help & Support, and select Check for updates.
    • Reset Surface Pro Type Cover Connection:
    1. Detach the Type Cover from your Surface Pro 9.
    2. Clean the magnetic connectors with a microfiber cloth to remove any dust or debris.
    3. Reattach the keyboard and check if it is recognized immediately and if the backlight starts working.

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
