My Surface Pro 7+ has a diagnosed electrical failure. It's dead. Costco ext warranty will refund. However I need to read MS 128GB SSD to access only copy of some photos. How do I (a) unscrew it from rear pop-open holder and (b) read it? Thanks

    Hi keith_150!

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We're here to help and let's work on this together.

With your query, here in Microsoft, we do not recommend unscrewing/removing any parts of your Surface device, may it be dead or working. However, you may try to check on your cloud to access some of your photos and see if you have saved it there.

Thanks again for choosing Microsoft. Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    RodelioP.

See Surface Pro 7+ For Business English Service Guide - iFixit and Microsoft Surface Pro 7+ Repair - iFixit Repair Guide - it should list the exact Torx screwdriver needed. Reading the SSD may or may not be possible. You'd need an external enclosure to USB device for a m.2 2230 SSD - and there is no guarantee that you would be able to read the Surface's SSD (you'll probably need your Bitlocker key). I suppose you have little to lose by trying yourself. If you are near a Best Buy store in the US, they may be able to help you.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Barb. It's a bit out of my comfort zone, so I'll cut my losses and move on!
