There is a black box on the left hand corner of my screen that has an X in it, and will not go away through task manager, etc. Does anyone know how to get rid of this, or what it is?

    Hi Nicole Di Pietro

We value your contribution to the Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue with your Surface Pro 7+ display. The black box with an X in it that you're seeing could be a stuck or frozen cursor. To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys on your keyboard and select Task Manager.
    2. In the Task Manager window, select the Processes tab.
    3. Look for any processes that are related to the black box with an X in it and end them.
    4. If the issue persists, try restarting your Surface Pro 7+.

Another solution to fix this issue.

    1. Press Windows Button + X then select RUN.
    2. Type %localappdata% Then click okay.
    3. Once open, click on the 3 dots on the upper right corner and click on options.
    4. Once the folder option is open> click on TAB View. Then select show hidden files. Folders and drives.
    5. Then click on apply the click okay.
    6. From that first folder open, find IconCache> then delete it.
    7. Then restart the Surface device. ****

I the issue persists, please follow this step below.

    1. Press Windows X then select command prompt and right click and run as administrator.
    2. Then type sfc /scannow.
    3. Once done, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    4. Once done, Type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    5. Once done, type DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    6. Once all command is complete restart your Surface and observe if the issue fix.

If you encounter any issues during this process, please let me know and I will do my best to assist you further.

    Kind regards

    Christopher.
