Surface Pro 8 Touchpad Buttons Not working

Hello

I have a Surface Pro 8 and the Touch keyboard. The right/left click on the touchpad have suddenly stopped working. The mouse part still works, but none of the clicks work.

I have looked at the device manager and followed instructions to remove the HID-Compatible Touch Pad driver and rescanned the devices which then reinstalls the Touch Pad, however the click remains non-responsive.

Has the Touch Pad itself died? I've gone into the UEFI boot screen and the keys all seem to work.

    I got the message

There might be a problem with your Surface.

When I click on results, this is what I see

    Possible causes

    The keyboard hardware failed

    Hi Vincent!

Thanks for getting back to us!

We truly appreciate your cooperation on this matter. Our next and last best step is to perform a recovery image reset already and see if this would resolve the issue. This option reimages the entire device, including the partition on the hard drive. It is the most complete form of reset. Before you begin, you must have at least an empty 16GB/32GB of USB Flash drive and it must be formatted to FAT32 prior to downloading the Recovery Image. Please back up your important files as well, as this will delete all of your files and data saved in your Surface device.

To proceed, please follow the detailed instructions in Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support.

If the reset would not help, then we can confirm that this is a hardware issue already that needs to be replaced. Please contact our live Microsoft support team for further assistance on replacement process. Since here in community forums, we don't have the right tools and resources to be of further help. Below are the steps on how to contact them:

    1. Go to Contact Us- Contact Us - Microsoft Support.
    2. Choose how you would like to get support for your Surface device.
    3. Type in the problem you need help with.
    4. Look at any available solutions offered and select Contact Support.

If the above steps did not work, you can also check on Barb's step by step instructions on how to contact support How to get Phone and Chat Support (for Surface Home/Consumer - Microsoft Community.

Thanks again for choosing Microsoft. Hope this helps!

I would suggest going to a Best Buy or Surface retailer to see if you can try another signature keyboard. Sounds like the touchpad is not working, but this would be a great way to confirm hardware is the issue.
