Surface Pro 8 with Win 11 Pro - Unlock without PIN, FACE, or FINGERPRINT???

What started as just a check to see what the battery charge was, I pushed the power button once and the spotlight screen popped up. In the lower right are the WiFi and Power icons. When I touched the power icon, the taskbar momentarily popped up. Then, when I swipe up, instead of being greeted with the lock screen, it took me to the desktop (?!?).

That's pretty neat. No PIN, no HELLO, no fingerprint. Just an upward swipe. NICE! OK. Forgive me for my ignorance. Is that by design? Have I stumbled onto an undocumented pheechur?

I'm almost afraid to mention it here because, sure as there's Murphy, someone at Microsoft will decide it needs to be fixed.

EDIT: "If it sounds too good to be true..."

So - This only works from a SLEEP state. A cold start still requires a PIN, FACE, or FINGERPRINT. That's ok with me. I like the way it works. :-)

    Hi Stephen Weller,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We appreciate for sharing your concern to us.

If you have it enabled in your sign in settings, the functionality that allows you to skip the password prompt after waking up is normal.

    To check this, here's how:

    1. In the Settings app, go to Accounts.
    2. Select Sign-in options from the right-hand side of the screen.
    3. Click the drop-down button for If you’ve been away, when should Windows require you to sign in again? option and see if it is set as Never.

Disabling the password required while resuming from sleep only impacts your device's behavior when coming up from sleep if you have it set that way. A fresh start will ask you to enter your sign password.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

Since I don't see a way for me to do it myself, please close, cancel, or delete this. There's nothing useful here.
