Use a surface studio 2+ as an external display for a kvm?

My office insists that I use a work-provided Lenovo laptop. My own home computer is due for an upgrade, and I'm thinking seriously about a Surface Studio 2+. What I would like to be able to do, is employ a KVM such that I can switch my keyboard, mouse, and the Surface Studio 2+ display to either work natively with the Studio 2+ as expected, or to echo the display and feed keyboard/mouse to the laptop. The keyboard and mouse (etc) seem straight-forward, but I'm wary about the display. Is this a viable use case?

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you want to use your Surface Studio 2+ as an external display for a KVM switch, so that you can toggle between your work laptop and your home computer.

While the Surface Studio 2+ has a beautiful display, it is not designed to be used as an external display for a KVM switch. The Surface Studio 2+ has a proprietary connector that is used to connect to the base, which houses the computer components. This means that it cannot be used as a standalone display.

I would recommend looking into other options for an external display that are compatible with your KVM switch.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
