Getting 80004005 errors on SurfaceAppdt.exe Sufacemanagementextensions and Storeextensions, but Surface App and Store run fine

I recently setup two new Surface Studio laptops at the same time -- same software installs . One has no errors. One has consistent errors every time the Surface App is run or Microsoft Store is opened. The error does not seem to affect functionality--it's just annoying.

I've uninstall and reinstalled the apps, and run Repair and Reset on the apps. No difference.

The Surface Diagnostic Toolkit does not run,

The only thing left to do is a full system reset, but that'll waste another five hours (just the OST file is 15GB). So if anyone has a workaround, I'd appreciated it.

I've seen others mention the error in the past, but I've never seen a reason as to why it happens.

I'm putting this under Surface instead of Windows because the Surface App is the main issue.

    Hi David Wright4,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

Just to make sure: do you see these errors when you open the Event Viewer on the device? If yes, kindly take a screenshot of these errors and share them to us here.

For now, try running the System File Checker Tool on the device then see if these errors persist. See this page for details: Using System File Checker in Windows - Microsoft Support.

If incase error persists, try these steps below:

Open Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & features

Look for the Surface app on the list then click the 3-dots icon next to it

    Select Advanced options

Under Background apps permission, change it to Never

Do the same for the Microsoft Store app

Restart the Surface then check if the errors persist

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion

Thank you for the idea, but it made no difference to either app.

I did a local reset today and the problem still existed, so I did a cloud reset and the problem finally went away.

My solution ended up being no solution. The problem returned, but now I get the error 3 times each time the Surface App is opened.

Pretty much just Microsoft products install.

    Fun stuff.
