Hello

I am messaging again as a last resort. I have a surface Go 2 laptop that I bought approximately 2 years ago. A few months ago my laptop stopped working. it just won't start, only a light shined every time I opened, sometimes the logo would also show but immediately go away.
I had asked questions on the community but received no valuable feedback on what went wrong or on how to fix it. I scoured the internet for any solution like force restart but non worked. I had totally given up.
As all my info about the device(warranty) was on an account and I had no idea how to find this information or on which account it was on.
Just today on one of my personal account I saw an option called register device and on which it showed me that the warranty expired just last month. I had no idea such a option existed or else I would have opted for that.

I ask if there any way it is possible for the warranty to be extended as I think some major issue as happened to the laptop and it would be extremely costly for me get the device repaired.

Thank you

    Hello,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Please allow me to explain to you all the information about the Surface warranty.

Generally speaking, the limited hardware warranty of Surface series devices is one year. If you purchase this device along with an additional extended warranty, the warranty service of your Surface will be extended.

To check the warranty status of the Surface, it is indeed necessary to complete the "Register Device" operation first. So, that's right. It's the "Register Device" button on the dashboard of your personal Microsoft account. Then, enter the corresponding serial number to associate the device with your Microsoft account and simultaneously check the warranty status of the device:

As for extending the warranty period, Microsoft does have relevant information, but it can only be extended when the warranty information is incorrect. In simple terms, if the extended warranty was not added to the warranty when you purchased the device, you can contact the Surface technical support team and provide them with your purchase vouchers to correct the warranty period of your Surface. For more details, please refer to here:

So, if you are currently trying to find out if there is a way to extend the warranty period of your Surface, I can only tell you that the prerequisite is that you also purchased the extended warranty service when you bought this Surface.

However, if not, it means that the warranty period for this device has ended. If it is to be repaired by the Surface technical support team, additional payment will indeed be required. To be honest, it is indeed a little expensive:

Now, if your Surface is in a situation where it can start but cannot enter the system, considering that you have already performed methods such as "forced restart", the suggestion I can offer you is to create a Surface dedicated USB recovery drive on another computer and then use it to restore your Surface to factory Settings:

As long as your Surface has no hardware failures, this solution is usually effective.

    Hello

Thank you very much for your reply. Although i am sad that there cannot be an extension on my warranty, I am interested in the last solution you provided.
I did not understand when you said "but cannot enter the system".
My device is in a situation where it literally does nothing. I open the device and a light shines (a plain blue tinted screen), from which I can presume it has battery but nothing else is shown. I cant work it any way.
It was because of this situation that I presumed that my laptop is probably going through some hardware issue. I actually have zero clue if that's right to assume. I can also see that the force restart is working because after 30 secs on holding the power button the shining light goes off and then comes back after a few seconds.
Would you kindly please confirm if the solution you provided about the recovery drive can work under these circumstances.

Also I think I would like to confirm is that on my account it shows that I had a 2 year warranty, which ended 24/05/2025. Is that extended or some other kind of warranty.

    Kind regards
