I'm sorry to hear that the FN key stopped functioning. I will do my best to assist.
The FN key could be defective already or it could be that the FN key still functions but it's the backlight of the FN key isn't work. To test, press the FN key for one time only then steady press the FN key plus F1. If the process lowers the screen brightness, then we can confirm that the FN key still functions but it's the backlit that is not working.
Try the steps below:
- Check the Windows settings for new or remaining updates. Go to search > search for Windows update.
- Run the System File Checker.
- Install the drivers package manually.
- Check the specific OS build of your Windows Settings> System> About.
- Download the driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Book 2 and click download on the next page.
- Please choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.
- After the download, runand installthe .msi then Restart the Surface Device.
