I have a surface book 2 and it is my first computer. I have always used this computer solely for youtube and gaming. My fn keys use to work back when I first got them and then one day it decided not to work anymore. Fn light will not turn on. I have tried every youtube tutorial on it. It would either be a tutorial that doesn't WORK or isn't SUITABLE for a surface book 2!! Can someone please help me out it is really frustrating and tiring. Anytime I use it, only the hotkeys work

Thank you for posting your inquiry here in Microsoft Community, Rachel Douglas.

I'm sorry to hear that the FN key stopped functioning. I will do my best to assist.

The FN key could be defective already or it could be that the FN key still functions but it's the backlight of the FN key isn't work. To test, press the FN key for one time only then steady press the FN key plus F1. If the process lowers the screen brightness, then we can confirm that the FN key still functions but it's the backlit that is not working.

    Try the steps below:

    • Check the Windows settings for new or remaining updates. Go to search > search for Windows update.
    • Run the System File Checker.
    • Install the drivers package manually.
    • Check the specific OS build of your Windows SettingsSystemAbout.
    • Download the driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Book 2 and click download on the next page.
    • Please choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.
    • After the download, runand installthe .msi then Restart the Surface Device.

If the issue persists, please visit our contact us page; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/ to contact Microsoft Surface Support and get your device replaced. If you're located outside the United States, you can check our Global Support Contact page; https://support.microsoft.com/help/4051701/.

Thanks for replying it's both the sensor light and fn key that do not work. Yes, when I use the fn keys and f1 button the brightness goes up.

I did everything but install the new drive because it didn't have the same build and I didn't want to risk messing my pc up.
