Mouse does not work when Surface screen detached

The Surface laptop is a perfect design for having good posture while working.  I can detach the screen and set it up at eye level while still working with the keyboard and mouse.  However, the mouse does not work when the screen is detached.  Is there some setting I have wrong or did the designers not envision this kind of use for the product?

    Hi JuniorAT,

We're happy to hear that you have purchased a Surface Laptop. Regarding your concern where the mouse does not work when the screen is detached, can you send a photo of the actual laptop? May I also know if this is the same laptop featured in this link? Lastly, may I know what type of mouse are you using?

I'll look forward to your response.

    Thank you for replying.

It appears to be the same laptop as in the picture.  The only difference is that the icon on the key to detach the tablet (upper right next to DEL)  is different.  Yours looks like a power button icon.  My power button is on the tablet.

    I am using a Logitech M325 mouse.

Thank you for providing us an update. What you seem to have is a Surface Book. To confirm what device it really is, can you check your Surface information using the Surface app? Use this link to download or launch the app. Go to Your Surface and check SKU to see what your device is.

If it's a Surface Book, your mouse's USB receiver is plugged to the Surface's keyboard or base. This is why you lose connection to the tablet when it is detached. A Bluetooth mouse will work best for you if you are accustomed to detaching the tablet from the keyboard.

Let me know if you have other questions.

I won't download any apps to my laptop.  It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect the System function in the Control Panel to tell me what my device is.

Thanks.  I will try a Bluetooth mouse.
