Random typing/volume increase

I bought my Surface Pro 4 on 26th December 2016.

It has, in the past day or 2, decided to act quite bizarre.

When I try to type words in (to the URL bar for example) it fills the whole box with " '7ypagb " on repeat.

This is always accompanied by the volume being turned up to 100.

If I then use the volume keys on the thing itself, the screen flashes black and the volume bar flits between 99 and 100 whilst me and the computer duel for volume control.

The keyboard and cursor then freeze.

If I pull the keyboard off and then reattach then I can gain access to my cursor again and the computer unfreezes.

If I use the keyboard on the screen instead, the issue doesn't occur.

(I've seen in these forums that you sometimes ask for extra details that I never know where I would find. If you do need anything else to help me out then please also let me know where I can find out.)

Could be a faulty keyboard or keyboard connector among other things.  If u are in the US go to a Microsoft retail store and have them check your sp4 and keyboard.  If a retail store is not available try to find someone with an sp4 and try their keyboard or contact Microsoft support and have them send u another keyboard under warranty.

I have exactly the same problem. Same characters in the same order, same volume increase. Exactly. So unlikely it is mechanical issue!?

I am using a Logitech bluetooth keyboard and Dell bluetooth mouse as a workaround with no problems!

I have to carry these about with me now while the type cover is basically just a cover. I was on the verge of purchasing a new type cover before I read your post. I have been using the type cover regularly since January 1st 2016.

I'm an IT Systems Administrator and had a user report this issue this morning. They are working remotely today, but I will have my hands on the device tomorrow and will be digging into this issue. Any resolution in the meantime would be appreciated, and I will be sure to update with anything I find tomorrow.

As we have a couple dozen of these devices issued to our users, myself included, knowing the cause, and a way to resolve, or get ahead of the issue would be very much appreciated.

I just finished working on the users computer with the issue.

The problem lies with the Type Cover itself. When I attached my type cover to the user's surface, it operated as expected. When I attached the users type cover to my Surface, as soon as I attempted to type something, it immediately began typing the '7ypagb repeatedly.

To be on a safe side, I uninstalled the type cover device and rebooting on both Surface Pro 4's, and in both cases the affected keyboard continued spamming the computer.

I can only assume that '7ypagb is some sort of error code, but that is merely speculation. For the time being, I will be replacing the affected type cover.

The affected keyboard is only a couple months old.
