Surface Pro (5) - Frequent Errors and Blue Screen Problems

Hi. I bought my computer a few years ago (2017), so maybe it's starting to get old. I have been so pleased with this computer since I bought it for studying purposes, and now, my last few weeks as a student, the problems are starting to affect my masters degree progress.

Microsoft Surface Pro 12,3" touch

Core m3 7Y30, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD

The first problem Inoticed, was that the touchscreen didn't work on the middle-vertically part of the screen. I agreed with myself that this wasn't a major problem, since at this time, I only need to write and look up nessesary topics for the assignment. But NOW... now I feel like its daily getting worse. My Surface is getting slower, I can't seem to have more than 5-10 tabs open in firefox, and if I then dare to open Spotify, AND have Microsoft Word open at the same time, I get a blue screen. This wasn't an issue before, and if I opened to much at a time before (I know this version of the product doesn't have the best prosessor), if the computer startet to get slow, I could just close some applications, and everything would be fine. Now, even after a restart, everything is slow.

Today when I sat down at the office, I turned on my computer, Opened word, and two tabs in firefox (which was already downloaded pdf files). When I then opened a streaming tab (Norwegian television “TV2 – Sumo”), first the loading time was amazingly slow. Then, when I chose to watch the news on this television streaming app, The video first took forever to load, then, when it first got a picture, it started lagging. When I then tried to search after the problem on google, and trying to enter your support page, it was a struggle, haha. And even trying to write in your details box, it somehow doesn’t allow me to press space between the words! :O

What I am wondering, is if this is a product failure, something I can fix, something you should fix (deliver it in for reparation). What should I do? I don’t think I have dropped it, or made any damage to it, other than it at times lies in a purse/bag when I bring it around. Maybe I have dropped my bag to hard?

It won’t even let me enter the company page where I bought the product, so therefore I can’t find out the exact date for when I purchased it. But it is more than 2 years ago, on “komplett.no”. They said I could send the computer to them, but I can’t be without my computer, since my master's thesis is due at 01.06.2021.

I really hope you can help me, at least with some temporary solution :P

Best regards Marianne Johansen

    Hi Marmoira95,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.

    We suggest the methods below:

    • Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check Windows Update.
    • Check for Windows error, go to search > search for reliability history > check for errors.
    • Run the System File Checker
    • Set performance to Best Performance. Go to the lower-right corner, look for the battery icon > use slider to set to Best Performance then observe.
    • Install drivers package. Check the specific OS build of your Windows SettingsSystemAboutDownload the driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro 5 and click download on the next page. Please choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next. After the download, runand installthe .msi then Restart the Surface Device.
