    Hi wolfblaster123,

Your Surface may be unable to carry out the task because of a software problem. Can you share more information about why you are trying to boot from a USB?

If you are able to log in to Windows, you can access the UEFI through these steps:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Choose Update & Security.
    3. Go to Recovery.
    4. Under Advanced startup, click on Restart now.
    5. The Surface will restart and take you to the advanced recovery options.
    6. Choose Troubleshoot.
    7. Select Advanced options.
    8. Choose UEFI Firmware Settings.
    9. Click on Restart.

Let me know if you need more help.

If booting from a USB the boot info is on the USB drive it is not using UEFI boot on the device.

The only time UEFI on the device is used is:

When you Reset from the Windows sign-in screen or reset the device from within windows.

To boot from a good USB restore drive, turn the device off, hold the volume down and press the start button, release the volume down when the surface logo appears.
