Pen interaction with Pro 8 is terrible

Surface Pro 8 and writing panel interaction is terrible. I've had 4 Surface tablets and have never had one that the pen didn't enhance the experience until now.

It's a struggle to get the writing panel to come up and to stay up for starters. In some Microsoft apps like News, I have to practically break the screen to get the panel to show up. And in that app, the suggested spellings will never appear.

I use the pen as a mouse to open apps and again, I have to stab the screen.

My pen works just five on my Pro 5 so it not t he pen.

    Hi PatriciaBiehl,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We understand how inconvenient it may be to run into such an issue when using the Surface pen with your Surface device. I am here to help and let us work on this together.

Let me ask few questions to help us further isolate the issue.

    1. May I know which Surface pen do you use? See Identify your Surface Pen and features - Microsoft Support.

For the meantime, please try running the following steps below to troubleshoot your device.

Force the device to shut down and restart.

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check updates available. You may also check optional updates if there are drivers updates available.

See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)

Manually Update drivers and firmware for your Surface.

Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version. On the search box type Winver and hit the enter key.

Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro. Then click the link next to Surface Pro 8 then click Download on the next page. Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next. After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

I hope to hear back from you.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia
