One of my Surfaces did updates this morning and is now stuck on the

"Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."

I read the fixes that says to use the Shift+F10 but doing so does not bring up the command screen. What should I do?

    James,

This make take a few exchanges to resolve. First thing to try is a two button reset to see what state you are in since we can't tell what update this is.

Step 1: Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it.

Step 2: Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time for at least 15 seconds and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3: After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4: Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.

Please reply after you perform the above steps and tell us if you are stll stuck in the same place.

After trying that I was able to get to the Surface UEFI screen.

And if you exit the UEFI, where do you end up? Have you tried connecting a USB keyboard as opposed to the typecover and tried Shift+F10?

Right back to where I started, on that update screen. I don't have a USB keyboard.

    James,

Are you in the US and if yes, are you able to go to a Microsoft Store https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/locations... ? The reason I ask about a USB keyboard is that we've been seeing SP4 typecovers suddenly stop working (and there is no fix for that). I don't know if you sadly have a double whammy of the failed update plus a bricked typecover, thus my concern. If you have a friend of co-worker you can borrow a USB keyboard from, it certainly would tell us more. If you aren't in the US/can't borrow a USB keyboard, I'm going to transfer this to the Windows Forum where some of the Windows Experts can put there heads together on this at least to try to solve the Windows issue.

Please let us know if you are near a store/can borrow a keyboard or if I should move this to the Windows Forum.
