I need a new power cord for my Surface 3 as it's not charging properly, and I've been told it is not part of the power cord recall initiative. My specs are as follows:

OS Build 10.0.16299.248

Serial No. 005325653052

Processor Intel(R) Atom(TM) x7-Z8700 CPU @ 1.60GHz

Graphics card Intel(R) HD Graphics

System OSType64BitX64

RAM 2 GB

There are very few third party chargers and combinations of cables/plugs that

will charge a Surface 3. I learned this one myself.

Microsoft actually stopped selling the original replacement official charger for

the Surface 3 (as opposed to the Pro 3 where you can still purchase official

chargers). When mine died for no apparent reason, after I learned that all micro

USB cables were not equal and that power supplies mattered, I purchased

    https://www.amazon.com/iClever-Delivery-Nintendo-Notebook-Compatible/dp/B07194RXTS

and https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019Q562W4/ for my Surface 3 and it has

    worked ever since.

Barb, many thanks for your suggestion, which I can happily say has resolved my issue. I only bought the cable and plugged it into the Microsoft USB plug, which has done the trick.

It's just a shame that Microsoft themselves haven't recognised that this is an issue with their cable and instead they preferred to try and charge me for the privilege of buying a new one from them. It seems they're only interested in trying to fleece more money out of customers instead of admitting that their hardware is not fit for purpose.

    Thanks again.

    Regards, Gary.

Plug the power cord into the surface THEN plug the cord into the adapter.
