Yes, a converter should be enough to use a monitor. I've been able to connect a monitor using an HDMI to Mini DP, so I'd imagine it'd be the same for VGA.

I have a surface pro 3 and just bought a new monitor. Can you tell me what I need to hook them up. None of the cables that came with the monitor work with my Surface . Will the mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter work or do I need the Microsoft Surface Dock. Thank you.
