Surface Pro 4: Battery usage not showing

Recently i found that the Surface Pro 4 battery settings is not showing anything but a sentence saying: "We only track usage when your device is on battery power, not when it's plugged in. No apps used battery during the selected time period. " I would like someone to look into it.

Ps. My battery charge is good, and the charger would light up when plugged in. so don't give me a link to anything about battery charge 😂

When does it start: Couple weeks ago.

Where's the setting: Click on the battery icon in the task bar, and then battery settings -> see which apps are affecting your battery life.

What I've tried:

  • Check updates of both "Microsoft AC adapter" and "Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery", and it determined that the best (latest) driver have been installed.
  • Restart Surface
  • Drain my battery to 0% and re-charge it to 100%

None of the above worked.

Thanks for reaching back to me~

    Here's some info you requested.

Windows version: Windows 10 Pro, 1903

    The OS Build is: 18362.356

And yes, the message is taking the place of the list of apps with battery usage data. I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same page here cause I've seen it before, like i said couple weeks ago.

Thanks again for the reply~ Looking forward for the fix~

Thanks for your quick response on this and we thank for answering some details for your concern. You may consider trying this steps below and check each if we have a progress.

    Suggestion 1:

Try to check under your Device Manager and check under the Battery. Tap or click it to show options.

Try to uninstall the Microsoft Surface ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery. Tap and Hold the driver that has an error to show up options or Right Click > Choose Uninstall> Delete the driver if Prompted > don’t proceed on Restart yet.

We are about to update the driver of the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Please proceed on this on this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023482/surface-download-drivers-and-firmware-for-surface

To update your Surface with the latest drivers and firmware from the Download Center, select the .msi file name that matches your Surface model and version of Windows. For example, to update a Surface Book 2 with build 15063 of Windows 10, choose SurfaceBook2_Win10_15063_1702009_2.msi. For a Surface Book 2 with build 16299 of Windows 10, choose SurfaceBook2_Win10_16299_1703009_2.msi.

    Suggestion 2:

Perform an In-place Upgrade with Windows 10. Ensure you are signed in or have administrator rights to do a repair install. Unplug all external peripherals except for the Mouse, Keyboard, and LAN cable before starting. Disable or uninstall any 3rd party Anti-Virus Program to prevent it from interfering with the upgrade.

    1. Select Download tool now, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
    2. On theLicense terms page, if you accept the license terms, select Accept.
    3. On the What do you want to do? page, select Upgrade this PC now, and then select Next.
    4. After downloading and installing, the tool will walk you through how to set up Windows 10 on your PC. All Windows 10 editions are available when you select Windows 10,except for Enterprise edition.
    5. When Windows 10 is ready to install, you’ll see a recap of what you’ve chosen, and what will be kept through the upgrade. Select Change what to keep to set whether you would like to Keep personal files and apps, or Keep personal files only, or choose to keep Nothingduring the upgrade.
    6. Save and close any open apps and files you may be running, and when you’re ready, select Install.
    7. It might take some time to install Windows 10, and your PC will restart a few times. Make sure you don’t turn off your PC.

Please let us know if this helps. This will help other members who may have the same issue as you. Otherwise, don't hesitate to update us by posting or replying.

    Regards,

    Edd

    Hi Tony Rao,

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Surface Community. I’m sorry to hear about your concern with regards on your concern on your Battery Setting. We salute you in trying some steps to try to fix your issue. We do have some few questions just to clarify things up.

Currently, what's the OS version and build of your Surface Pro 4?

To find out which version and build of Windows you're using, select Start > Settings  > System  > About , then look under Windows Specifications to find your operating system version and OS build number.

Does that the message shows up when you click on "See Which apps are affecting your battery life" in battery Settings?

Supposed to be when you click on that, it will show applications and it's percentage that currently running and that affects the battery. Just wanted to know if we are on the same page on this.

Please keep us posted, looking forward on your response.

    Regards,

    Edd

Thank you Edd for your helpful reply~

I'm so grateful to update with you that this works as it should be, after all the method you offered me! I think it's the driver that helps me restore the feature of battery data. If anyone else have the identical question, I strongly recommend you to go download the latest driver MS published on their site.
