Microsoft Surface Go - No Bootable Device issue, not solved with resetting or FixNoBootableDevice Fix

Hi there,

I have a microsoft surface that decided to get stuck in a bootloop after installing updates. I created a recovery drive using the correct serial number and a 32gb USB stick. When trying to uninstall the recent updates, nothing happened and it report it failed. So eventually I gave up and just decided to try and reset the whole device. I went through the recovery drive prompts and tried to reset the device, but it failed and said no changes were made. This has happened over a dozen times at this point.

The surface is now no longer stuck in a bootloop, but now there's no bootable device at all.

I downloaded the SurfaceGo_FixNoBootableDevice.Zip, reformatted my 32GB USB stick and am currently trying to sort this out. Unfortunately every time I boot onto the SurfaceGo_FixNoBootableDevice.Zip stick, all I see it a command prompt window with the line -

X:\windows\system32>wpeinit
X:\windows\system32>

and nothing beyond this. The device eventually shuts itself off. I've looked up as much as I can at this point, and I'm stumped. I can't figure out what to do next. I've followed both of these -

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/surface-recovery-image

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/surface-go-or-surface-go-2-turns-on-and-shows-no-bootable-device-5348cd7c-b417-4384-aad1-6d7db2642a9bBut there's nothing at all left to try. I've tried downloading both the 1803 and 1809 version of the windows 10 recovery for the device, it's made no difference, and the SurfaceGo_FixNoBootableDevice just leads to a command prompt window.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi DizzyJK,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community and I'm sorry to hear about the issue that are having on your Surface Go.

Just to make sure; when you create and set up the USB drive, you did not copy the zip file directly to the USB, right? You downloaded the file first to your PC or other device, open the zip file then copy and paste all the folders and files inside the zip file to the USB, correct?

If yes and all the instructions were followed correctly, I suggest contacting our live support for options available and for further assistance. You may contact our live support through the Contact Us - Microsoft Support **** page:
