Hello, I have a Microsoft Surface 7 with Windows 11 installed on it. I am trying to do a wireless connection to my TV but it is not working. I was able to connect my tablet to the same TV and it was working just fine, but now, when I am trying to connect, it says "Follow any instruction on your device". There are no instructions on my TV and I tried to connect to another Smart TV and still got the same message.

    Hello Abdul,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I appreciate you raising this concern to us, and I understand that you're experiencing an issue with projecting display from your Surface. You got me here: we'll isolate this issue together. Allow me to ask this question:

    • May I know what is the make and model of the TV?
    • Does this work before?

Here are things you may try to fix the issue:

    1. Make sure that your Surface Pro 7 and your smart TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
    2. Check if your smart TV supports Miracast. If it does, you can use these features to cast your Surface Pro 7 to your TV.
    3. On your Surface Pro 7, go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices > Add Bluetooth or other device > Wireless display or dock. Your Surface Pro 7 should detect your smart TV. Select it and follow the on-screen instructions to connect.

If that doesn't work, try these:

    1. Try to reinstall the network adapter driver. Go to Device manager > expand Network Adapter > right click Intel R Wi-fi > select Uninstall > Restart device after.
    2. Allow the adapter to communicate through Windows Firewall

Windows Firewall might be preventing the adapter from connecting to your device. Here's how to allow the adapter to communicate through the firewall:

    - Select **Search**on the taskbar, enter **allow firewall**, then select **Allow an app through Windows Firewall**from the list of results.
    - Under **Name**, find **Wireless Display**, make sure **Private**and **Public** are selected, then select **OK**.

**Note:**If you can’t select anything in the Allowed apps and features box, you aren't logged in as an administrator. Select Change Settings, type your administrator password, and select Yes. If you're an administrator on your device, the password should be the same as the one you used to set up your device. Then, make sure Private and Public are selected and select OK.

The TV is Philips model no: 55PFL5602/F7

yes, it was working before, and now, for some reason, it gives me that message I mentioned earlier when I try to connect to the same device or any other TV.

I tried both solutions you mentioned above and none of them worked. Still getting the same message.

I removed all the Bluetooth devices and tried to connect again, but the problem still hasn't been solved.

    Hello Abdul,

Thank you for the response and sorry to hear that the issue persists to happen still. Allow me to ask a question:

    • You have mentioned that this works before. By the time it's working, is it Windows 10 or Windows 11?

You may also try these steps:

    1. Force shutdown. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and release once Windows Logo appears on screen.
    2. Check for Updates. Settings > Windows Update > Check for Updates > Install > Restart.
    3. Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit.
    4. Download latest drivers and firmware: Download Surface Pro 7 Drivers and Firmware. from Official Microsoft Download Center

If any case none of these works, the best thing we could do is to do a clean installation or the so-called USB Recovery Image. This will wipe out everything from the Surface and will reinstall a new operating system. To do so we must have these things first:

    • USB Flash Drive (not less than 16GB and not more than 32GB)
    • A working computer that is running in Windows. You can use your Surface if you can navigate to it.

    See steps below:

How to Download, Create and Use a USB recovery drive

    To download the Recovery Image:

    • You'll need another working device running on Windows.
    1. Go to: Download the recovery image for your Surface
    2. Sign in with your Microsoft Account
    3. From the list of Surface devices available, select the device that you need a recovery image for
Please note that while you will only be presented with devices that are currently registered on your account, you will also be presented with the option to get an image for a different type of device. If you try to use this option, you will be prompted to enter the serial number for that device
    4. Download the recovery image using the button on the page
    5. When the download bar pops up at the bottom of your screen, save the file in a location you will be able to find it.

     Format USB Drive:

    • Note: Formatting a recovery drive will erase anything that is already stored on your USB drive. Make sure to transfer any important data from your USB drive to another storage device before using it to create a Surface USB recovery drive.
    1. Insert your USB drive into the USB port of your PC.
    2. From the desktop, open File Explorer
    3. Tap and hold or right-click on the USB drive and choose Format
    4. Select FAT32 as the file system and enter a Volume label to name the USB drive, such as RECOVERY, and then tap or click Start
    5. Tap or click OK to erase the contents of the USB drive
    6. Tap or click OK when the format is complete

    Create a recovery drive:

    1. On your Surface or PC, open recovery image that you downloaded by double-clicking it or right click then select Extract and then Extract all.
    2. Select the USB drive you formatted earlier for the location and click Extract.

Use a USB recovery drive to reset your Surface:

    1. Shutdown the Surface
    2. Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port
    3. Press and hold the volume-down (-) key
    4. Press and release the power button
    5. When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-down (-) key
    6. Surface will start the recovery software on the USB recovery drive
    7. When prompted, choose your language options and keyboard layout
    8. Select Troubleshoot
    9. Select Recover from a Drive. Choose Remove Everything and Fully Clean the Drive. Recovering this PC.
    10. If prompted, select Repartition the drives
    11. If prompted for BitLocker Key, tap Skip this Drive

Please give this a shot and let me know how it goes.

    Best regards,

    Rolando S.
