Surface won't work with keyboard attached -- flickering red light on keyboard detach key

I'm trying to determine why my surface won't work when attached to the keyboard.  When the power supply is connected to the keyboard there is a flickering red light on the keyboard detach key.  As soon as I connect the tablet to the keyboard it cuts off and won't restart.  If I manually detach the keyboard then the tablet works fine.  Is there a way to determine if the keyboard battery needs to be replaced or if the keyboard itself needs to be replaced?  Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi,

You may be experiencing this on your setup because of how the Surface reacts to the keyboard. The services or software that should allow the connection between the two devices may be corrupted. It's best that you reinstall the keyboard driver in Device Manager to repair the problem. Refer to these steps:

    1. Open Device Manager (Windows key + X > Device Manager).
    2. Expand Keyboards.
    3. Right-click on the adapter of the problematic keyboard and choose Uninstall.
    4. Restart your Surface and reconnect the keyboard. The adapter we removed will automatically be reinstalled.

Let us know how it turns out.

    Regards.
