Microsoft Surface Pro 7 1866 USB A Charging

Hi

My interpretation of this page (https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4023450/how-to-charge-surface) on the Microsoft website suggests that the pro 7 can be charged using a USB A 2.0 or 3.0 charger capable of delivering 1.5A @ 5V (Obviously using a USB A to C cable)

I have tried doing this with multiple chargers, all of which should be capable of supplying 1.5A, but none of them work (A dialog appears saying that the tablet isn't charging)

Am I missing something obvious?

(I am aware that is recommended to use a USB C cable plugged into a PowerDelivery port/use the power supply provided, and that doing what I am doing will charge the device slower)

    Hello, ThomasWorle!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry. We are sorry to learn you have issues with your Surface Pro 7 getting charged by several chargers you tried on it. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and noting you checked the article that discusses how to charge Surface devices.

We understand you wish to achieve at least slowly charging the device using a USB 2.0/3.0 compliant chargers as it states in the article that chargers that can provide 5, volts, 1.5 amps, or 7.5 watts can slowly charge the device and used if there's no other options. It is also noted there that low voltage USB-A chargers with a USB-A to USB-C cable will not work at all.

If your chargers are either USB 2.0/3.0 compliant and capable of delivering 1.5A @ 5V, the cable might be the issue. Some chargers may come with a proprietary nonstandard connector that the device doesn't support.

If you get an message that the device isn't charging, this may mean the following:

    • The charger isn’t compatible with your PC (or phone).
    • The charger isn’t powerful enough to charge your PC (or phone).
    • The charging cable doesn’t meet the power requirements for the charger, PC, or phone.

You may check further on information under PC (or phone) isn't chargingsection at this page: https://support.microsoft.com/help/4012609/

Since the chargers you used will not work, I am afraid that any of those combinations you tried (adapter, cable) are not compatible with the device's USB-C connector.

    Regards,

    Janette_Z
