Hello Evie,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
We noticed that you are using a Surface Laptop, so we moved your thread here.
But could you please tell us which model of Surface Laptop you are using?
This is because an abnormal vertical line in the middle of the screen may be related to display driver failure, and we need you to provide the correct device model to avoid us providing you with mismatched drivers and firmware packages:
Download drivers and firmware for Surface - Microsoft Support****
If this is just a driver failure, the problem can usually be rectified after manually installing the appropriate driver and firmware package.
But I am more concerned that this is a hardware fault, as shown in the following link:
Troubleshooting options for a screen that has lines through it - Microsoft Support
The process in the guide connection is to test the screen in the UEFI page, and if you notice the same problem in the UEFI page, it means that the screen is damaged and needs to be repaired.
I can direct you to real-time Surface Support, who can help you create a service order if the Surface you are using is eligible for repair:
Open the Surface App (usually built into your Surface device, or you can download it from the Microsoft Store if you don't have one) and follow the procedure below:
- Click "Help and Support" and then click "Get Help".
- Briefly describe your problem in the text box, such as "My surface screen has a faded vertical line down the middle", and then press Enter.
- Click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
- Select "Technical Support" and click "Confirm".
- You will see "Chat support" and "phone support" options, please contact them during working hours, you will get one-to-one support services.
I wish you all the best.
Best Regards,
