I haven't really tried any other solutions. This seems to be some "deeper" issue within the system. It just happened again & here is the fired CRITICAL event when I force-restarted it:

It is followed by several warnings and one rather cryptic ERROR event that is standing out by not being prefixed with "Microsoft-Windows-" and also containing binary data:

I have automatic updates on and I have been having this issue for a very long time -- possibly since owning my surface book.
I can try playing around with the power saving plan and MAYBE circumvent this error somehow. This too wouldn't be a solution, though. I have really no idea on where the problem could lie. I doubt it's hardware related, but it's also unimaginable for it to
be software related if other users aren't experiencing the same issue -- I believe that Windows Defender checks the correctness of the system's file signatures.
A google search tells me that a lot of users have had problems with their surface book waking up from sleep. I have no clue if that is somehow related to my problem, though.
