bright areas on corner of the screen, pen calibration and fan.

Hi,

sorry for the long title but all my problems are summed!

So a little more details now:

-I have some "bright spots" on the edge of my screen, most of them are quite acceptable but one of them is HUGE and is problematic. Mostly when displaying dark images.

-Pen calibration. I mainly bought a surface pro 2 to sketch on it. Pen calibration was always a problem on my surface pro 2, but I wanted to wait for the latest wacom's driver release (with more than 4 calibration points) which I did. But the pen is still completely off in some areas in the middle (let's just not talk about the corners please... ). So I am wondering, maybe my tablet is malfunctioning., I hope so... Because a tablet called "pro" and that expensive... I really hope my tablet is malfunctioning.

-Lastly, the fan. My fan as a tendency to trigger itself a lot more often than at the beginning... And the tablet get a lot warmer than before.

Please let me know what to do, I'd like to have an exchange.

Many thanks for your help.

Elliot

    Hi Elliot,

    Thanks for your response.

I understand that you have tried all of the possible pen calibrations and none of them seemed to help fix the issue. That's not good. Especially since the pen "jumps" as if it is moved by a magnetic force -- that is not a behavior of a properly functioning pen.

Have you considered trying a refresh?

NOTE: Refreshing Surface reinstalls Windows and keeps your personal files, settings, apps that came installed on your Surface and those that you’ve installed from the Windows Store.

You’ll need to reinstall desktop apps from the websites or from the discs that you used to install those apps. Before you refresh Surface, make sure you have access to product keys and installation files for desktop apps that you want to reinstall (for example, Microsoft Office).

    Refresh from within Windows

Step 1: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings.

(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings.)

Step 2: Tap or click Change PC settings.

Step 3: Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.

Step 4: Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, tap or click Get started.

Step 5: Tap or click Next, ensure that your Surface is plugged in, and tap or click Refresh.

Surface restarts and the Surface logo displays while the refresh process completes (this can take several minutes).

If this doesn't fix the issues with the pen and screen, your best bet would be to contact **Assisted Support**to get further assistance.

    Hi Elliot,

Thank you very much for taking the time reach out to us. I understand that you have issues with the screen, pen calibration, and the fan on your Surface Pro 2. I appreciate you sharing your concerns regarding those issues, and I will try my best to address them for you.

I see that you would like to do an exchange -- but before doing so, may I some clarification questions so that I fully understand what you are experiencing?

    • Do you have all updates installed?
    • Have those 3 issues been occurring since the beginning? If not, when did they start happening? Out of nowhere, or after an update?
    • As visual aids, I would highly appreciate it if you could take pictures of those bright spots and the areas where the pen is completely "off." Do you mean there are areas where the pen is not detected?
    • And lastly, do you detect the fan to be working excessively on one app/program than others?

Please let me know your findings. I appreciate your cooperation in advance.

    Hi Shiho_P,

    thanks for your reply.

    To answer your questions:

-Yes, I've got the latest update (I check every day).

-As I explained, the pen calibration issue is here since the 1st day I had my surface. I tried a lot of different calibration methods, redo hundred of times different calibrations. Still got the issues... To add more details, in the middle of my screen when I "mouse over" with the pen you can see a kind of "jump" like if a kind of magnetic force, forces the pen to get around this area. And the corners are just completely off, when you go in those 4 areas, the pen just accelerate and is completely off. Sometimes I don't even touch the screen and it's perform a clic... so... THAT KIND of off haha!

-About the bright area, it seems like it the LCD backlight, cause I can see a kind of regularity in those spots, I guess it's just random... Maybe another surface will not have it or in different areas. But on the right upper side (when I look at it) one of those bright spot is a lot bigger than all the other and it's problematic as I explained. It maybe has the diameter of a small apple. A kind of radial gradient bright spot.

-About the fan, I'm not really sure here but I have the feeling than the fan trigger itself earlier than at the beginning, but it's just a feeling I'm not really sure about this one. None specific app spotted, I'm not sure it depends. Sorry.

hope that helps, please let me know what's next.

    Many thanks for your help.

    Elliot
