LG 4K UHD external monitor limited to 1024x768 after surface restart

I have a surface book 2 that I use at work and home.  Setup at work is two monitors, one 1080p Dell and one 2K HP Pavilion 32" QHD.  I have no issues with resolution at work.  At home I have a single LG 32" 4K UHD monitor.   I am (was) using the surface dock at each location.  When I plug my surface book in at home to dock before its shut down, it works great.  As soon as I restart, I am limited to 1024x768 resolution on the 4K LG monitor.  I have ran the surface diagnostic tools, all windows updates, uninstalled and reinstalled device drivers, removed several softwares, and now I am stuck with using the Surface Dock registry tool to wipe the dock each time it happens.  However, when I do this, it erases my settings for my work monitors, so I then have to go back and reset the main monitor and configuration.  Has Microsoft found a fix to this issue, other than the dock registry work around?  I have to use the surface dock for charging only and had to purchase a $300 Targus docking station to get my 4K monitor to work consistently.

If you are using a mini display port to HDMI connection you can try using a mini display port to display port and see if that helps. Also your cables should not be longer than 3 feet.
