External 5120x1440 Monitor with Surface Book 2 and Microsoft Surface Dock with USB-C to DP Adapter

Hello Community,

I use a Surface Book 2, 15 inch and i7 with the Surface Dock 2. As additional monitor I have connected the new Samsung Odyssey G9 (C49G94TSSU).

When I connect my Samsung C49G94TSSU via the dock (USB-C to DisplayPort Adapter) I can't choose the resolution of 5120x1440. Instead, only 3840x1080 is available.

Is there a way I can configure the Surface Dock 2 to use the full resolution of 5120x1440?

Thanks for any help!

Manu

    Hi, Bolkiman!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns regarding your Surface Book 2.

Please see a table of the supported resolution and refresh rates for Surface at the https://support.microsoft.com/help/4023496/ page.

We understand that you only see 3840 x 1080 there, instead of 4096 x 2304. Please take note that when you connect your Surface device to monitor, the device tries to set the best resolution based on the connector and the resolution of your monitor.

Your aim here is to stretch the capability of your device to show 5K resolution on your gaming monitor. If I may ask, what is the driver version of your display driver when you check Device Manager?

    Looking forward for your response.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z

    Hello Janette_Z

Thank you for your feedback. I thought that 4K with a resolution of 4096 × 2160 and those 8847360 pixels, has more resolution than a monitor with a resolution of 5120 × 1440 and 7372800 pixels.

I am currently using version 26.20.100.7639 as the driver for the Intel UHD Graphics 620.

    Thanks for your help

    Best regards

Apologies for the delayed response, Bolkiman.

There are some that were able to obtain 5K resolution on an external display.

    Here’s the steps they did:

    1. Go to Device Manager
    2. Click on Display adapters and choose Intel® UHD Graphics 620
    3. Click on Update Driver.
    4. Make sure that the location is C:\Program Files\SurfaceUpdate\GraphicsZH and click Let me pick from a list…
    5. Instead of choosing 26.20.100.7639, select the one with version 25.20.100.6472
    6. Click Next to install.

    We hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Janette_Z
