Bluetooth Headphones Clicking Sound When Connected

I've connected my Sony bluetooth headphones to my surface pro 6, however any sound which comes through to my headphones from my surface makes a vague clicking sound, no audio comes through properly. My headphones work absolutely fine on other devices and other bluetooth devices such as my arc mouse work correctly. Why is sound not working properly on my headphones?? I've tried turning both devices off and on, and disconnecting my headphones.

Many thanks,

Dom.

    Hi DominicFitches,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused.

By the way, is your Surface device up-to-date? To initially troubleshoot this issue, kindly follow the steps below.

1st Step: Check for Windows Update to ensure there are no missed updates

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates and click Install.
    • Once done, please restart your device to apply the updates.
    • Run **Surface Diagnostic Toolkit** and make sure to complete the tasks.

    2nd Step : Uninstall/Reinstall Bluetooth Driver

    • Open Device Manager
    • Expand Bluetooth
    • Right-click on Marvell AVASTAR Bluetooth Radio Adapter and click " Uninstall Device". If a pop-up shows up, leave the box uncheck, just proceed uninstalling the driver and restart your Surface to get the driver reinstalled.

3rd Step : Download Drivers and Firmware

    • Go to Download Drivers and Firmware. Choose Surface Pro 6 and hit Download.  Select the .msi file that matches with your device OS Build or the closest one available, hit Next and click Run and download it successfully. Once done, you restart the device to apply the changes.
    • To check your device current OS Build: Go to Settings > System > About and see Windows Specification for details.

Once you restarted the device, unpair and re-pair the Bluetooth headphone and see if this works perfectly.

    Kind Regards,

Same result, didn't work at all.  Do I have to go back to wired headsets or what?

Except I can't even do that, because I have a cat who will immediately start playing with the cord, and biting it.

I have the same problem with a Sony WH-CH400 and I have also installed all the Win10 updates. I can pair a JBL bluetooth speaker/mic device to my Surface Pro 2018 and the audio is fine. I can pair the Sony headphones to my Pixel3 and the audio is fine. But when I pair the Surface Pro to the Sony headphones, all I get is a repetitive noise that sounds like a playing card clothespinned to a spinning bicycle wheel.

Both ears in my case.  No usable audio at all.
