Windows could not start the Block Level Backup Engine Service service on Local Computer?

Hi there

I'm trying to back up my system and I'm facing the: 0x800700b7 error: "Cannot create a file when that file already exists".

I've had a thorough read in many articles on the net but none could help me with regard to the issue.

Every time I'm trying to set up a backup (Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Backup and Restore (Windows 7)) I'm getting the: "The backup application could not start due to an internal error: Server execution failed (0x800800005)".

Any clue?

Solution #6 in this article gave me the solution!

The space allocated for the backup it was too small (4%) then I gave it 15% and all done!

    Hi Gen

    Thank you for your help!

What worked in my case was to access the libraries and remove all directories referenced.

The libraries I removed were the ones present in the error logs issued by the system.

    The steps I followed were:

    1. Open RUN dialogue

Win key + R, insert the shell:Libraries command and click OK.

    1. In the open Windows Explorer window clear all libraries from referenced directories.

         a. Right click on them (one at the time).

        b. Select PROPERTIES.

        c. In the new dialogue, highlight all present directories and click REMOVE.

        d. ClickOK.

    1. Re-run Windows Backup.

    All done!
