Surface Pro 4 Camera Rear & IR Camera Front Device Power Failure

Got a strange one.

I don't regularly use the cameras - front or rear - or Windows Hello for authentication. However, recently I noticed Skype wasn't finding any available cameras. (My S4P is a daily driver with no damage and as per PCI:DSS requirements, always updated.)

So. Checking Device manager - both the rear and front cameras are showing issues.

Checking further - both show the same general error:

and

Initially, I thought to roll back drivers. No dice. The options for each device are grayed-out.

Then, I thought, let's reinstall the drivers. Three methods were used.

Firstly, I uninstalled the device via Device Manager - using the "delete the driver software" option. Rebooting seems to have no significant change. (Verified by checking the System / System32 / SysWOW64 folders after the process: uninstall + software deletion, I do not see the drivers in question actually being deleted.)

Secondly, I tried resetting the device to factory (removing documents after making a backup of my user profile). No dice. The same drivers are reinstalled (presumably with new/known-good drivers) and the device shows the same status_power_failure state.

Lastly, I've tried installing the Surface Pro 4 drivers & firmware, found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49498 - NO apparent change.

At this point I think I've pretty much exhausted my troubleshooting capabilities/options. However, I feel like this is probably related to a recent patch/update roll-up. Any help from the community would be greatly appreciated.

'Cheers,

Just in case this matters - of course - my device just went out of warranty. LIke.. a month ago. :(

Also - EUFI settings are solid. All devices are enabled.

Did you get any resolution to this? I'm facing the same issue. All updates, uninstall/reinstall of drivers, disabled/enabled in UEFI, rolled back drivers, and still same issue. Will be taking the SP4 into the store this weekend since mine is still under warranty.

Nope - definitely take it to the store. No fixes/updates/workarounds have gotten me running so far.

Thankfully - I don't really need webcam regularly. Still - irritating as hell for when I'm on the road.

Yeah I'm definitely not needing it but  I'd rather get it resolved now while I've got it under warranty. Will let you know if I find anything out from MS
