Surface Pro Charger Breaks Constantly

Question

I purchased a Windows 10 Surface Pro a little over three years ago for school and I am on my third charger, which like the two before it, has now inexplicably stopped working. Each time this has happened I’ve done research and I know I’m not the only one experiencing this persistent problem. It is not “user error”, after the second charger I have done everything exactly right to the point that it makes using the laptop inconvenient at times.

What, if anything, is being done about this? At this rate, by the time the laptop reaches the end of its shelf life I will have paid as much in chargers as I did for the computer itself. I’m seriously considering switching to Apple permanently to save money and frustration.

I have had a very similar issue. I am on my second charger and it has stopped working. I have tried all of your suggestions, they worked when the charger performance first started to degrade, now these techniques no longer work.

Do you have a solution for this problem? Buying a new Microsoft charger will probably solve the issue short term but I am very concerned the new charger will break over time.

There is an obvious design flaw with the Microsoft charger, is there a 3rd party offering made with better quality?

I am thinking of dropping the Surface due to this issue. I cannot be sure I will be able to use the device from one day to the next because of the chargers intermittent functionality.

I have the same issue for my surface pro 6. First 3 years power adapter worked perfectly. Bought 3 power adapters with in a span of 4 months. All adapters started to stop working after 3-4 weeks. Not sure if issue is with design or with surface or the charger.

I have the same problem. I’m on the third official Microsoft charger (and two non-Microsoft chargers which were even worse, though cheaper). I’ve had two surfaces for the last several years.

The plating on the pins on the charger wears off in the corners and then it stops charging. This has been an ongoing issue with the surface laptops for years. The solution is to not buy surface laptops because as you can see by these threads, Microsoft does not care (or even acknowledge it is a problem).

I have also experienced this issue. I just bought a new charger 2 weeks ago and it has already stopped working. Is there something wrong w/ my charger port where it is ruining chargers? I don't like the open charger port, I have a case for my computer, and I store and transport it in a soft case in my backpack. Help. I just dropped $100 in a month on chargers

Guess I should feel fortunate I’ve only replaced my power cord 3 times in 4 years…
