Microsoft Surface Laptop Go turns on for 1-2 seconds at the windows logo and then shuts off immediantly.

Hello,

I have a Microsoft Surface Laptop Go, Model 1943, Windows 10.

Unexpectedly, when trying to turn my laptop on yesterday, I found that when I pressed the start key, the screen would only turn on for a moment displaying the windows logo before shutting down immediately. When I say "1-2 seconds" I mean that literally. The screen basically flashes on and off. I found that this is preventing me from doing any regular trouble shooting like booting in safe mode, using the volume down button to boot, using recovery from a USB flash drive, or accessing any regular menus as it does not even go to a login screen.

For reference, the laptop is charged (had been for 24h) and was not having any serious problems prior. The laptop was not dropped or damaged other than normal intended regular use with movement onto table surfaces. The only potentially notable issue was some minor cooling problems that caused the fan to run for a while but it would eventually stop and stay cool on other days. I was never really sure why it would suddenly run the fan for long periods of time because I wasn't running anything on it that was highly taxing. Just chrome, Microsoft office, or maybe some video streaming. However, it was not experiencing any heating issues in the time that I used it last.

Thank you

    Hi KS_211,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your Surface Laptop Go. Even if it shuts down immediately after displaying the Windows logo, you can try the following steps to fix the issue:

Force a shut down and restart: Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen again (about 20 seconds), then release the power button. See Force a shut down and restart your Surface for more info.

Start your Surface by using a USB recovery drive. Here's how:

    1. Shut down your Surface.
    2. Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port on your Surface.
    3. Press and hold the volume-down button while you press and release the power button. When the Surface logo appears, release the volume-down button.

For more info, see Creating and using a USB recovery drive.

That method was something I already tried. At the time it wasn't working likely because it was only powered on for one to two seconds. But fortunately, it seems that my laptop was able to escape it's boot-loop on it's own. Lets hope it stays that way.

    Thank you for your help.
